The future of an old supermarket site and disused council offices in Staffordshire could soon be clearer after the local authority secured £420,000 from a government fund.

The Ryecroft site

The old Sainsbury's building on Ryecroft in Newcastle-under-Lyme was demolished five years ago.

The borough council then moved out of its nearby offices in 2018 and now wants to develop both sites.

In September, the government said historic shopping centres would benefit from a £95m regeneration fund.

The council has now revealed it's planning to use the cash to look into potential options for the Ryecroft area and to decide how to safely demolish their old offices.
